APAC WEBINAR SERIES

FULL LENGTH 16S: SHOTGUN METAGENOME TAXONOMIC RESOLUTION AT TARGETED SEQUENCING PRICES

Tuesday, 16 August 2022
10:00 - 11:00 am (Singapore)
11:00 am - 12:00 pm (Seoul, Tokyo)
12:00 - 1:00 pm (Melbourne)

Join us on Tuesday, 16 August 2022 from 10:00 - 11:00 am (Singapore Time) for the next iteration of the PacBio Asia Pacifc webinar series featuring Drs. Jeremy Wilkinson and Khi Pin Chua of PacBio.

16S rRNA gene sequencing has been a mainstay of bacterial analysis, however only full-length 16S sequences can robustly identify the broad range of bacterial clades seen in microbial communities at the species level, without bias. Join us for this live webinar to learn how experts in the field of microbiome / metagenomics are using HiFi reads to produce richer data cost-effectively, to reveal the true microbial diversity of samples with better taxonomic resolution, and to generate more testable hypotheses.

Drs. Wilkinson and Chua will take a look at the latest bioinformatics workflow aimed at simplifying and optimizing 16S analysis using PacBio’s HiFi sequencing. The pb-16S-nf workflow packages multiple well-established software for 16S analysis into a Nextflow pipeline that’s easy to install. It is optimized to generate results and visualizations that can serve as a good basis for 16S microbiome analysis. Finally, pb-16S-nf has a user-friendly installation process using Conda or via containers (Docker/Singularity).

Attend this webinar to:

  • Learn how to achieve the highest taxonomic resolution for microbiome research
  • Understand the importance of both high accuracy and long reads for microbial communities
  • Hear examples of how better resolution clarifies links between the microbiome and phenotypes
  • Learn how to use data analysis workflows optimized to analyze full-length 16S sequencing data generated by HiFi sequencing
